In late summer 2026, Gary published his fourth book, Efficacious Educational Technology, under Creative Commons Attribution–NonCommercial–ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY NC SA 4.0).
The book is intended for those who want to be educational technology professionals. He had in mind graduate and undergraduate courses as well as workforce development audiences when writing the book.
He said this when asked about the ideal readers, “I think about students in my community college courses. They are often anxious to get their first job in IT, but they rarely think about schools.”
The problem, he contends, is that IT courses preparing students for entry-level positions rarely discuss schools. “I look at the case studies in the textbooks I use in my IT courses, and there is never any consideration of educational populations. And let’s face it, IT in schools and IT in business are very different tasks.” The problem is not only with entry-level IT folks, according to Gary. “I have seen very experienced school IT people who are frustrated that teachers and administrators complain about the decisions they make. This book is my answer to those IT people,” Gary said.
This book explains educational technology from the framework of Efficacious Educational Technology, which consists of appropriate design, proper configuration, and reasonable implementation. “Effective technology planning requires everyone know their role and perform their duties will sill. It is a very collaborative process,” he explained.
The book is available as a printed books and an ebook from Lulu, and it has been prepared for global distribution, so it can be found at bookstores everywhere.
